Quick Setup Guide for MikroTik RouterOS 7 with Winbox 4

MikroTik’s RouterBoard and Wireless Routers have become widely popular, with RouterBoard primarily used in ISP networks for large configurations, while the Wireless Router is favored by home users for smaller setups. RouterBoard often requires custom configurations due to its large network applications, whereas the MikroTik Wireless Router is geared toward home use, requiring a quick, user-friendly setup.

To cater to home users who need a fast, simple setup, MikroTik RouterOS 7 offers a Quick Setup option, which can be accessed using Winbox 4. This guide walks you through the process of using Winbox 4 to set up MikroTik RouterOS 7 quickly and easily.

Getting Started with Winbox 4

Winbox 4 is the latest graphical interface for RouterOS 7, designed to be modern, straightforward, and efficient. You can download it from the MikroTik Software Download page for any OS platform. If you’re new to Winbox 4, install it on your system, and follow along with this quick setup guide.

Quick Configuration of MikroTik RouterOS 7

  1. Physical Connections: Connect the ISP cable to the first Ethernet port (ether1) on your MikroTik Router, then connect an RJ45 cable from your PC to any other available Ethernet port.

Step 2: Quick Internet Setup

This step configures your ISP connection. ISPs typically offer three types of connections: DHCP (Automatic), PPPoE, or Static.

  • Automatic (DHCP): If your ISP provides DHCP, choose “Automatic.” This will activate a DHCP client on the ether1 port to connect to your ISP’s DHCP server.
  • PPPoE: Enter the PPPoE Username, Password, and Service Name provided by your ISP, then click Reconnect.
  • Static IP: If your ISP provides a static IP, enter the IP Address, Netmask, and Gateway information provided. Set your DNS Server IP (you may use Google DNS: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 if preferred).

    • Enable Bridge All LAN Ports to combine all LAN ports into one network.
    • Check DHCP Server and set the IP address range for DHCP (e.g., 192.168.100.2-192.168.100.200).
